About Us

Every day shows the increasing effects of climate change and the need for low-cost, reliable, and clean energy sources. Solar and wind are now more economic than fossil fuels. The challenge is affordable energy storage. An electrical grid powered by renewables requires massive investments in energy storage technologies. Lithium-ion batteries have been deployed on the grid, but the world needs solutions that are lower cost with longer lifetime and better safety, and which are not limited by raw materials availability and foreign supply chains. Inlyte Energy’s iron + sodium battery leverages the proven design of the ZEBRA battery to create an energy storage solution with the unique combination of high efficiency, long lifetime, competitive energy density, and stellar safety, using abundant commodities—iron and sodium.

Role and Responsibilities

We're looking for a visionary Product Lead Engineer to drive the development of our energy storage solutions for electric utility, commercial, and industrial applications. This role is perfect for someone passionate about shaping the future of energy storage solutions and eager to grow into a key technical leadership position within our company.

This position reports to the Chief Commercial Officer. We have a preference for Bay Area candidates but are open to remote workers; for local candidates, this is a hybrid position with 2-3 days in the office.

  • Lead Development of BMS: Spearhead the development of our Battery Management System (BMS), optimizing performance and ensuring the safety and reliability of our unique iron + sodium battery technology. Work with vendors and contractors to create a development timeline and deliver the product.
  • Development of Higher Level Control Architecture: Oversee the creation of our Energy Management System, integrating operational preferences with BMS objectives to efficiently manage charging and discharging cycles.
  • Mechanical Design: Investigate the key drivers of project lifecycle costs and benefits and work to design a solution that meets customer needs, abides by key codes and standards, and enhances competitive advantage for a safe, reliable, and cost effective solution.
  • Market Analysis: Identify customer needs, market trends, and the competitive landscape in the storage industry. Engage in quantitative and qualitative research to identify and refine product-market fit over time.
  • Customer Engagement and Requirements Gathering: Engage with early customers to understand their requirements and influence product specifications and development. Work with subject matter experts to identify and create product requirements for the development team.
  • Guide Product Roadmap: Develop a comprehensive product roadmap for energy storage hardware and software solutions. Create product requirements documentation and define key milestones for minimum viable product (MVP) through development, demonstrations, and pilot projects aligned with our go-to-market strategy.
  • Lead Product Execution: Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, business development, and marketing, to ensure alignment and successful execution of the product roadmap. Coordinate product launch and go-to-market across teams for successful product delivery. Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Organizational Planning and Resource Allocation: Play a critical role in envisioning and planning the establishment of a robust product management function within our organization.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability in integrating advanced energy technologies with electric grids and customer sites.
  • Experience leading advanced electric technology projects through demonstration and pilot stages.
  • Proven experience in managing battery performance and health.
  • Solid track record in product management, especially in a startup or emergent environment.
  • Effective leadership of cross-functional teams, including business and engineering stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle within advanced energy technologies.
  • Knowledge of current codes and standards in advanced electricity hardware and software products.
  • Strong background in data science relevant to energy systems.
  • Minimum education: BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's or PhD preferred.
  • Ability to travel to our UK site at least one week per quarter.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a dynamic start-up environment.
  • A good listener with integrity and humility. A champion of our Practices of Safety, Determination, Teamwork, Humility, Joy.
