Mitra Chem is rewriting how the world makes battery materials. We're an AI-native company building the iron-based cathodes — starting with LFP — that will power the next generation of lithium-ion batteries, and we're doing it on a timeline no one else can match. By fusing high-throughput experimentation with proprietary machine learning, we take materials from lab to giga scale more than 90% faster than the industry standard.

We've raised nearly $100M to date, with additional support from the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of Michigan, and we're led by some of the foremost minds in electrochemistry and AI.

Climate change and U.S. energy security are at an inflection point. Join us to be part of the battery revolution!

We are seeking a motivated and meticulous Engineer I // Laboratory Technician to join our team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate with a background in Science or Engineering who is looking to transition their academic lab experience into a professional setting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the precise synthesis and measurement of materials essential to our daily operations. You will work under the guidance of senior scientists to ensure that all experimental and production inputs meet our rigorous standards for quality and accuracy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Material synthesis: Weigh precursors and run synthesis equipment including bead mills, spray dryers, and furnaces

  • Materials characterization: Measure key materials properties using techniques such as X-ray diffraction, SEM, and press density

  • Battery fabrication: build batteries to qualify materials

  • Data Documentation: Maintain clear, organized records of all precursor weights, process parameters, and measurements in the Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety protocols (PPE, chemical handling, and waste disposal) and maintain a clean, organized workspace.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related scientific/technical field.

Experience & Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience (through coursework or internships) in using analytical balances and other laboratory equipment

  • High degree of accuracy in performing repetitive tasks and handling small quantities of material.

  • Ability to document procedures and results clearly and concisely

  • Strong grasp of basic lab mathematics, including dilutions, molarity calculations, and metric unit conversions.

Soft Skills:

  • A "growth mindset" with a desire to learn complex laboratory techniques.

  • Exceptional attention to detail: you believe that 0.001g matters.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation package including company equity

  • Comprehensive benefits including health, vision and dental insurance, Tax-free spending accounts, along with life and disability insurances

  • 401k matching and savings programs

  • Flexible time off with company holidays

  • Free daily lunch and snacks
